Statue of liberty is in New York. It is a statue of 93 meters high. The sculpture is a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was designed by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel. The Statue of Liberty is a woman who represents Libertas, a goddess of Roman freedom. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand and carries in her left hand a kind of book engraved in Roman numerals "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (4 July 1776), the date of the American Declaration of Independence. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States and was a welcome sight for immigrants who came from abroad.
